I’ve been to more states than I haven’t, and Ohio is in the bottom 3 or so. I’ve given it enough tries in enough different cities.
Sorry.
e: For the record, I don’t have a suggestion for what IS best, I just think it isn’t Ohio. :-D

You know what’s a fun drive? Oregon. You have the dry desert in the south, some farmland going up north, then you either hit plateaus or forests from there, THE GORGE , and then you’re in Washington. Fantastic drive.

While not quite as scenic, southern Tennessee has some awesome roads that are damn near empty. Rolling hills, clear streams, and nice forests, it’s quite nice.

I moved to Ohio in June and the only downside I’ve found is that the roads are pretty flat and straight. Otherwise it’s good. I even live ~30 minutes from Nelson Ledges and ~30 minutes in the other direction from Summit Racing

You mentioned this, but I was thinking it before I read the list. Because roller coasters! I’ve got a Cedar Fair Platinum Pass that I’ve been dying to use for the last couple weeks. Still months away from opening day :(

Valravn at Cedar Point. It’s a dive coaster. 223ft I think. Looks like a great addition to an already outstanding lineup! https://valravn.cedarpoint.com/?_ga=1.2365369…
![]() 01/21/2016 at 21:34 |
|
It is.
Cedar Point and Dayton Air Base Museum are pretty great. As is Great Lakes beer.
What passes for snow down here has left me a little wanting, but the milder winters have their perks.
Trying to find a good driving road in NW Ohio is infuriating, though.
![]() 01/21/2016 at 21:35 |
|
Awesome! I always welcome a new coster. It'll be hard to bet the Millenium Force though
![]() 01/21/2016 at 21:36 |
|
It simply doesn't exist. Maybe the road that follows the Maumee River isn't terrible but it isn't pure driving fun
![]() 01/21/2016 at 21:37 |
|
They didn't invent flight! They invented flying transportation.
![]() 01/21/2016 at 21:39 |

Rivers are basically the only hope, but any roads that do follow them tend to run for less than a mile. I miss my hills and landscape flecked with tiny lakes.
![]() 01/21/2016 at 21:43 |

Don’t worry, I’ll start for you:
-No state income tax

-Publix subs
-Publix chicken fingers
-Publix chicken finger subs!

I’m pretty sure there’s one on the west side that’s been turned into a nice restaurant. Never been there though.
![]() 01/21/2016 at 21:46 |

You realize Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus are all in Ohio...which easily negates your dubious best of list. Oh and don’t forget the “Giant Pile of Tires on Fire” outside Canton, Ohio. The pile, once four hundred feet high has been burning since 1977. Let’s not forget the abomination that passes for chili in Ohio. Oh and home to Jeffrey Dahmer! Congrats!
![]() 01/21/2016 at 21:47 |

Millennium Force is probably my favorite as well, but Maverick and Banshee at Kings Island give it a run for its money. Basically, whichever one of the three I’ve ridden most recently is my favorite.
I live in Dayton and it is so great to be close (relatively) to both . Cedar Fair buying Kings Island was a dream come true. One season pass plus two awesome parks equals a great summer every summer.
![]() 01/21/2016 at 21:53 |

It’s amazing. Idk if they even SELL Taylor Pork Roll outside of NJ, but this is the stuff to look for:
I like it best with yellow American cheese, scrambled eggs, and a toasted and buttered egg bagel.

I have nothing nice to say, so I’ll just do this
*hissssssssssss*
![]() 01/21/2016 at 22:11 |

I should’ve clarified, not Ohio, but southern TN and north AL is where I grew up. AL has the beautiful gulf coast, mountains, untouched marsh, beautiful rivers, Barber Motorsports Park, Talladega, and many other awesome things. And fucking awesome BBQ.
![]() 01/21/2016 at 22:15 |
|
I'll have to try to find it somewhere, or if I'm ever there try it where it came from.
![]() 01/21/2016 at 22:21 |
|
I’ll have to keep that in mind in the spring! I’ve been tending to the north since it’s a direction I’m more familiar with but I’ll have to explore the south sometime as well

I know, but my mother claims that it is Ohio’s premier skiing destination.
Oh, and we’re there to see my grandfather as well, but skiing is more important.

Even better
![]() 01/21/2016 at 23:07 |

65 and 424 are the exception and only really exciting roads in the area
![]() 01/21/2016 at 23:08 |

Moment of truth my family actually has a vacation house that we share with my grandparents in the Fort Myers area so I love it down there. Driving roads are few and fair between though
![]() 01/21/2016 at 23:10 |

Columbus is an excellent city. Hell one of the suburbs was named best in the country. Cleveland and Cinncinati are pretty good as well. The chili is awesome too.
![]() 01/21/2016 at 23:11 |

I agree. I haven't been to Kings in a while though. I need to go back this summer

![]() 01/21/2016 at 23:16 |

Yeah, you’ve got to have an appreciation for the long straight roads. Central Florida’s great for just killing an afternoon or a night driving around for hours.
![]() 01/21/2016 at 23:16 |
|
The large body of water is right there on the mountain. Kinda frozen I guess. No shoreline to speak of since the Cretaceous seaway closed up 65 million years ago although some, under the right influence, still claim to be able to see it.
![]() 01/21/2016 at 23:17 |
|
Oh gotcha. And I didn't realize Alabama had foothills. I didn't think it extended that far south.
![]() 01/21/2016 at 23:18 |

PS - Somewhere off the top right turn (Turn 1) in the woods sits the drivers front wheel from my Chevy Citation X-11. It broke off and rolled into the woods (weak hub drsign). Wheels roll a long ways and hide. Its been there going on 20 years.
Nelson is one fast track. We could average over 80 mph in a VW Rabbit!
![]() 01/22/2016 at 08:57 |

I don’t think that’s it, because it’s supposedly close to Mansfield/Ashland.
Ohio Fact: “Shawshank Redemption,” was filmed at the Mansfield Reformatory. As was, “Tango and Cash,” “Air Force One,” among other things.
![]() 01/22/2016 at 09:02 |

I won’t deny I like it. Still not better that flying transportation, football, or the Buckeyes. But it is good.
![]() 01/22/2016 at 09:05 |

Haha that is a funny story. Looks like a cool track. Wish it was closer to Columbus because I am lazy and Cleveland is a three hour drive for me. But I will have to go!
